At Rogue Star, we have a variety of methods to create the perfect custom apparel and promotional products for any business or individual. Just outside of Edmonton, located in Sherwood Park, our company ensures that we are able to provide our customers with the best printing procedures for the job. If you’ve checked out the services page on our website, you may have noticed a production practice called sublimation. Though you may be familiar with the product, the process in and of itself remains a mystery to many. This complex procedure produces vibrant products that are something to get excited about!

Sublimation is a printing method that transfers dye onto a variety of materials using heat. This process received its name due to the misbelief that the ink transitions through a solid to a gas state without liquefying. Truth is, there is a bit of liquefying, however the name stuck. This method can be used on a wide range of materials such as plastic, paper, or fabric.

When a customer requests a sublimation order from Rogue Star, the process is a bit more complex. First of all, the artwork is printed on fabric, not yet made into apparel. Once the fabric has finished printing, it is then cut and sewn together into an article of clothing. The end product is a custom piece that has seamless artwork with vibrant colours.

So why would you choose this method as opposed to DTG (direct to garment) printing? The difference between sublimation and DTG, is that the ink is actually embedded in the fabric as opposed to just sitting on top. That means that since the ink is now part of the structure of the fabric, you can wash it however many times you’d like and the ink will not fade or become cracked. The lifespan of this artwork is now in  direct correlation to the material of the fabric.

Our customers favour sublimation for custom hoodies and T-shirts. They make for impressive promotional pieces or company gifts. Sublimation is also used for producing fancy looking lanyards to get your company’s name out.
